Last Minute Things To Do Outside Before Winter Hits

It’s October and that means the air is crisp. The Aspen trees are starting to turn a beautiful gold color and the temperature is just right for long hiking, biking, and exploring. We have put together a few things to do around North Lake Tahoe before temperatures drop, snow starts to stick and it’s time to get out those skis and snowboards.


Disc Golf Tournament

North Tahoe Regional Park, 6600 Donner Road, Tahoe Vista.

October 7th and 8th, 8:15am – 6:15pm

If you like disc golf, you’re just in time for the tournament this weekend.

The Thunderbird Lodge

969 Tahoe Boulevard, Incline Village, NV

Fridays, October 6th, 13th, and 20th at 2:30pm

The Thunderbird Lodge on the east shore will be open for Wine and Cheese tours for just three more Fridays. Food and drink are included while you tour the estate. Bring your best walking shoes!

Pumpkin Patch

Incline Park, 939 Southwood Blvd., Incline Village, NV  89451

Saturday, October 14th, 11:00am – 3:00pm

There will be live bluegrass, a children’s choir, DJ Felipe Leon, local dancers, carnival games, bounce houses, a bungee trampoline, a rock wall, pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, glitter tattoos, food trucks, and of course, PUMPKINS! Don’t forget the silent auction and raffle with great prizes from Disneyland, Tahoe SUP, and more!

Festival and Pumpkin Patch

Saturday, October 21st, 10am – 2pm

Fun for everyone. Come dressed up in your best Halloween costume for the costume contest. If you aren’t into dressing up, you can compete in the pie eating contest! There will be other activities including an obstacle course, carnival games, and more!

A Few Hiking and Biking Trails:

Stateline Lookout

Crystal Bay, NV 89451

Distance: 0.5 miles

Difficulty: Easy

Self-guided nature trail with free telescopes to view the Lake.

Shirley Canyon

Squaw Valley Road, Olympic Valley, CA 96146

Distance: 4 miles

Difficulty: Moderate

Hike over boulders and past scenic waterfalls to High Camp where you can take the Cable Car back down.

Mt. Rose Trail

Mt. Rose Hwy. – State Route 431, Reno, NV 89511

Distance: 6 miles

Difficulty: Strenuous

Follow a dirt trail while enjoying all the Nevada flowers and sagebrush along the way. When you make it to the top, don’t forget to sign the log book!

If you’re looking for a cold brew after a day of hiking or biking, these trails end near watering holes where you receive a Tahoe Ale Trail sticker when you share photos from your day of recreation.
